About the Designer
With over 13 years of experience in the commercial interior design industry, Rachel Hillmann has developed a deep appreciation for how design influences the way people feel and function within a space. Her work has taken her through a variety of environments, from vibrant offices and hospitality spaces to retail and building amenities. Each one offering a new opportunity to create spaces that inspire connection and purpose. Over time, she has come to see design not just as a visual craft, but as a way to enhance daily life and support the people who inhabit each space.
Motherhood has been one of Rachel’s greatest teachers, shaping her outlook on both life and design. It has deepened her sense of empathy and reminded her of the importance of environments that nurture, calm, and uplift. She approaches every project with open ears and an open mind, believing that truly listening to her clients is the foundation of meaningful design. By weaving together their needs, aspirations, and stories, Rachel creates spaces that feel both intentional and alive. She designs thoughtful reflections of the people and purpose behind them.
The story behind the name.
The Working Nest was born out of a deeply personal journey — one that began when I became a mother. For a long time, I felt the pressure to choose: to either be fully present as a mom or to continue pursuing my career as a designer. But through experience, I discovered that motherhood didn’t take away from my work, it enriched it.
Becoming a mother gave me new perspective, empathy, and patience. It taught me how to balance, to listen, and to nurture. All qualities that naturally began to shape the way I approach design. I realized that this season of growth was not something to hide from, but something to celebrate.
The Working Nest represents the harmony between work and motherhood. A place where creativity, care, and purpose coexist. It’s a tribute to all the working mothers who continuously build, nurture, and create. Both in their homes and in their careers.
